Betty Ring
Betty Ring
Dated to be around the 1940s, Betty was manufactured during a time when the world was going through some terrible hardship. Betty is a tank ring; you often see these as textural dimensional shaped rings that were inspired from tanks and buildings. This is the time marked by movement and spontaneity – perfect for those that are neurodivergent. Women’s fashion became more serious as they also joined the workforce to participate in the war effort. Jewelers as a response, started to merge both masculine styling with sizeable feminine looks.
What is fascinating with Betty are her synthetic and natural corundum colors. Sapphires and rubies are both in the corundum family and they are distinguished by color. Red corundum is identified as ruby and pink corundum is identified as pink sapphire. There are 12 sapphires and their colors are blended beautifully with both pink and red that are synthetic and natural. Synthetic sapphires share the same chemical composition as their natural counterparts – they are different in their origination. It is very common to see synthetic sapphires utilized during this time frame and styling.
Betty’s overall appearance is larger than life, she will be quite the authority on your hand. At first, I thought her sculpted side were ribbons. However, upon a review with a jewelry historian we both think it’s a homage to a Victorian crescent motif. The sapphires and rubies being a crescent moon, the diamonds and white gold a shooting star. An incredible vintage ring that has a sweet remembrance and respect to the antique Victorian era.
