Care and Clean
Jewelry can last forever if you know how to take care and clean them. See my recommendations below. I will continue to update when I get new information.
Care
Basic: can be worn regularly with the following notes:
- Do not wear during intense physical exertion activities such as working out or gardening.
- Avoid extreme temperature exposure such as showering, swimming pools, sauna, hot tub, etc..
- Avoid harsh chemicals such as bleach.
- Don’t sleep with them on as it can reduce their durability, or it can get lost. Especially any items with prongs (like your Victorian claw prongs!) can get snagged and damaged.
- Put it on last! After your skincare routine and after you put on your clothing.
- Lotion can get stuck in hard-to-reach areas and can be difficult to clean.
- Clothing can get easily snagged.
- When in doubt, take it off.
Intermediate: can be worn occasionally with the following notes.
- All the basic care with the additional note:
- May easily snag or can get easily bumped due to its design. Additional attentive care when it is worn.
Advance: worn sparingly with special care.
- All the intermediate care with the additional notes.
- No water exposure. Likely due to it being made from delicate materials or if it’s closed back, moisture can get inside the piece and can cause damage.
- No perfumes or lotions as it cannot be easily cleaned.
Clean
If you remove jewelry pieces readily, you could extend the time to clean them.
Basic: can easily be cleaned with soap and lukewarm water. Clean jewelry 2 weeks-1 month.
Fill a small container with a drop of soap and water. Gently place the piece inside and wait 5-10 minutes. Take a soft bristle toothbrush and gently brush the piece with soap and water. Thoroughly rinse and let it dry.
Intermediate: can be cleaned with soap but may need additional handling. Clean jewelry 2 weeks - 1 month.
Same as above but may have delicate materials. Don’t submerge, just gently brush with soap and water.
Advanced: not easily cleaned. Spot clean more frequently to keep them clean. Remove them more frequently to avoid build up.
Clean with a q-tip with alcohol or Force Of Nature cleaner (my favorite since it’s so gentle!). Take special care with closed back gems as they can get damaged.
