I highly recommend classifying your jewelry collection. Why? It’s helpful for two key areas!
1. What you want to wear?
2. What you want to buy?
Buying expensive jewelry is daunting. You can be strategic about it though! With jewelry being so personal, there are so many ways to categorize. Here’s my strategy:
Foundational – these are your everyday pieces. You build on top of them. I like to keep this as basic care and clean so they can go through all types of everyday paces.
$, Care and Clean - easy
Focal – these bring color and texture to your look. Your wardrobe might differ from season, mood, or event.
$$, Care and Clean - medium
Fabulous – these are stand alone pieces. I allow for a greater allowance of budget here, however the quantities are really limited. That’s due to the fact they typically have a greater care or clean. It’s usually the higher price with greater care that’s traded by a supreme aesthetic look. Lots of ornate details and highly covetable collector pieces.
$$$, Care and Clean - advanced
1. What you want to wear?
When you diversify your collection, you have an easier time integrating them into looks. If I'm stuck on a look, I usually do a few foundational items, focal, and 1 fabulous look.
2. What you want to buy?
When the boredom hits, you could have a more logical approach to buying and welcome more items into your collection. If you look in your collection, what do you have a lot of?
Curious to hear if you have any classification strategies!
